Bucuti & Tara Environmental Policy

Reaching carbon neutrality

Simply obtaining the aforementioned certifications in sustainability wasn’t the end goal for Bucuti & Tara. In 2018, Bucuti & Tara became the first CarbonNeutral resort in North America – but again, they pushed beyond carbon-neutrality. In 2019, they started with a mission to reduce electricity and water consumption by 5% and to further reduce their carbon footprint by August 31, 2018. Their continued efforts to reduce environmental impact also brought home the 2019 World Travel & Tourism Climate Action Award, National Energy Globe Encore Award, and the Chief 2019 Hall of Fame Award for Best Practices for Environmental Sustainability.

In order to reach their 2019 energy goal, they incorporated new technologies and initiatives to facilitate the reduction. Part of the energy offset came from the new energy producing fitness equipment within their resort’s fitness and wellness center. By incorporating ECO-POWR™ cardio machines, guest workouts have stopped drawing power and instead started producing it, turning their fitness center into a human power plant.
